Code Crew Christmas Robotics 2025
Clubs and Campsđ Building Christmas Robots With Code Crew: Creativity, Coding & Festive Fun – Book Now!

This December, Code Crew is hosting a Christmas Robotics Holiday Camp at the St Clementâs Centre, and we couldnât be more excited! Designed for children aged 8â12, this two-day workshop blends creativity, problem-solving and festive fun â all through hands-on robotics.
At the heart of the camp is the Redfern Crumble microcontroller: a brilliantly accessible way for young people to learn real programming concepts while building something they can proudly take home.

đ€ What Weâll Be Making
Each child will design and build their own Christmas-themed robot â think Santa-bots, Elf helpers, jingling reindeer rovers, and snow-shuffling robo-snowmen!
The project is open-ended on purpose. Children make meaningful design choices:
-
What does my robot look like?
-
What does it do?
-
How will it move or respond?
This keeps the workshop creative and personal, encouraging imagination as much as technical skill.
đ Learning Through Making
Children will learn, step-by-step, how to program and control robotic components using the Crumble. This includes:
-
Motors (making the robot move or wave)
-
LEDs (lights that blink or change colour)
-
Sensors & switches (responding to touch or movement)
-
Sequencing, logic and variables (the basics of real coding)
Theyâll experiment with Crumbleâs block-based programming environment, which is intuitive and visual â perfect for building confidence and understanding how code controls real-world objects.
đ§Ș Test, Improve, Try Again
Once robots are built and programmed, the fun really begins!
We guide children through testing, refining, and debugging their creations.
This is where some of the best learning happens:
-
What happens if the robot moves too fast?
-
How do we fix a wobbly wheel?
-
Why didnât that light turn on?
Children learn that mistakes arenât failures â theyâre how engineers and creators learn. This builds resilience, patience, and confidence.
đ And Yes⊠They Get to Take It Home!
At the end of the camp, every child brings home:
-
Their custom-built robot
-
Their Crumble controller
-
Plus access to free software so they can keep experimenting at home
âŠwhich often leads to weeks of new inventions afterwards!
âš Why This Matters
This workshop isnât just about robotics.
Itâs about giving young people the space to:
-
Express creativity
-
Solve problems independently
-
Learn real coding skills in a playful environment
-
Take pride in something they built themselves
Itâs learning disguised as serious festive fun.
